Law and Disorder
I know this is a sports card blog but from time to time I’m going to veer off in a different direction. I apologize in advance and promise to keep these rants to a minimum. With that said here I go.
I have been a Law and Order Fan from the beginning. I have countless DVD’s and made a habit of following it through many different stages of my life. Heck, I even endured the “acting” (and I do use that term loosely) of Benjamin Bratt for a few seasons, not to mention a half dozen not so stellar spin offs.
However the recent addition of Anthony Anderson to the show as one of the detectives was an unforgivable offense. Anderson could quite possibly be the worst actor of the last 50 years. His bread and butter role has up to this been as a bumbling, supposed-to-be-funny-but-really-really-really-isn’t supporting actor in a plethora of different low budget, 1 star movies geared towards black audiences. The sole appearance he had in a good movie was the mainstream hit The Departed – a movie that succeeded in spite of, rather then because of, him.
So what would possess a man like Law and Order creator Dick Wolf to add Anderson to his flagship series? After giving it some thought I think there are only two possible answers – either he has gone insane/senile or he was tired of the show and was looking for a way out of his contract with NBC to keep it going. I have to go with the latter of the two scenarios. What better way to get out of a contract scott-free with a TV network then to tank your ratings? And how do you go about driving your ratings down? Simple, you hire Anthony Anderson. He’s a lot cheaper then Tom Cruise and it saved Wolf from having to endure any of Cruises scientology rants.
So there you have it. I promise to get back to cards wit my next post:).
