The Razor Baseball Card Bubble

The Razor Baseball Card Bubble

I remember back about two years ago when it was first announced that Razor was entering the baseball card market in a big way by obtaining exclusive rights to just about every player that mattered who was drafted in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Having not been a big fan of Just Minors but Razor had me really excited. This was in part because the lackluster offerings by Topps in the form of 2007 Bowman Baseball and 2008 Bowman Chrome Baseball left a huge void in the prospecting market. I was hoping this would be the oasis that me and other prospectors so desperately needed.

Not only did I buy countless boxes of 2008 Razor Signature Series, I even threw down about $500 buying Razor Metal singles, which were available for purchase exclusively by the single on eBay.

As time went on it quickly became apparent to me that I had made an error in judgment. Razor or baseball cards soon plummeted in value and quickly became relegated to Just Minors like status. The net result is that I was left with a bunch of ugly looking and seriously devalued baseball cards. This is a good reminder to me that the only safe way to get your money’s worth buying sports cards to buy based on what you like — that way you can never go wrong.

Thankfully Topps has since wised up and after securing the minor league baseball in USA team baseball licensing rights has delivered the best offering of prospects products possibly in the history of the hobby so far in 2010 – and 2010 Bowman Chrome Baseball hasn’t even hit the market yet!
